MBDA and HHA are pleased to announce that HHA has been selected to provide the Aerial Support for the Air Carriage Trials of the new Sea Ceptor family of anti-air missiles currently in development by MBDA for the FLAADS (Future Local Area Air Defence System) programme. A key component of the missile is a new generation of RF seeker head, which is now moving out of R & D towards a full Development and Manufacture phase. Integral to this phase are the Air Carriage Trials which aim to gather data at representative platform speeds.
HHA will oversee the planning and conduct of the flight trials, including the provision of both the Trials Platform Aircraft (TPA) and all co-operative target aircraft. The contract is expected to run for approximately 2 years. Contract activities, in particular modification to create the TPA, have already commenced with the first fast jet flight trials scheduled for late summer 2012.
The Sea Ceptor Trials Platform Aircraft (TPA), which will be an HHA owned, UK military registered Hunter T8 aircraft, modified to carry the seeker head (as shown) in the nose of the aircraft. The right side of the cockpit will be configured for a Flight Test Observer.
HHA has completed their fourth detachment to Boscombe Down on behalf of the Empire Test Pilot School. Once again the tasking exhibited 100% serviceability achieving all course objective on time and within Budget.
